Teaching a child how to read.

We are trying to prepare Addie for kindergarten the best that we can and have been really worried about the lack of education in the public schools these days. We want her to be a few steps ahead if possible rather than always trying to catch up. Tevan has offered her that when she can read a certain book she will get a special toy and a date with him to the ice cream store.

I have been very impressed with the book "Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons," by Siegfried Engelmann. Addie is only 1/3 of the way done with the books but she has been really receptive to the lessons and is starting to recognize word with out sounding them out.
