Today we went to the funeral for Holly Doxey. She was killed on Sunday when she was hit by a car. I was happy to see how well her family was taking this. Or how much they clung to their testimonies of what will happen to us after we die. I was impressed with how many people were at the funeral even though it was for a 2 year old. The chapel was filled all of the way back into the back of the cultural hall.
Something that really struck me about the funeral was some comments made by her father. He said that he had no regrets with the way he raised her. After the funeral he told us to really cherish our children and take lots of pictures and after talking with her mother she said to be more patient and give them extra hugs.
This wonderful family has been in our thoughts and prayers all week. Tevan and I were really touched by the funeral today and the example this family has been to us. It's amazing how we get rapped up in our day to day lives that sometimes we fail to focus on the important things. Last year during General Conference Elder Dallin Oaks asked us to "recognize the reality that just because something is good is not a sufficient reason for doing it. The number of good things we can do far exceeds the time available to accomplish them. Some things are better than good, and these are the things that should command priority attention in our lives." He then went on to challenge us to "forego some good things in order to choose others that are better or best because they develop faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strengthen our families."
I am going to focus more on the best things in my life which are my children and my Husband. I will try to focus on the best things I can do rather than getting distracted on the things that may only be good. Hopefully, when my children are grown I will have no regrets either.
