There was a nice paved parking lot off of the highway so we stopped and saw that the waves were really small and it looked like a little hike to get in there but it was manageable. There was no one on the beach and it was really pretty so we decided to go for it. We got all of the kids out (14) and all equipped with life jackets and all of the gear and were all ready to start the trek when a lady stopped and warned us that this was a nude beach. Since there was no one down there we did not think it would be an issue. Also, there was no sign declaring that this was a clothing optional beach, which would be nice.
After about 2 or so hours we saw this. Some old guys with nothing but a hat and his shoes on.
I don't think he liked the kids laughing at him because he retreated back behind the rock pretty quickly when he realized what they were pointing at. We did not really see anything we were not supposed to. A few hours later we started to see a ton of people go to the beach behind the rock. They were pouring in there so we decided it was probably time to go.
We saw 3 dolphins, a sea otter, and sea lion swimming in the 4 hours we were there. That was really neat!
Oh on our way out we left a different way and there was a sign showing how dangerous this surf was. It was in a really bad location really far away from the entrance not near the parking lot where these kind of signs could be. I guess the onlookers who like to peek with their binoculars at the nudies could see the sign. So next year I guess we will have to find a safer beach near Santa Cruz that is not crazy crowded.
