Emergency Prepardness Fair

Last week I had the opportunity to go to the emergency preparedness fair in Lodi, CA.We talked about all kinds of ways to store water. Did you know that you can store 12 soda pop bottles in an apple box that you can get for free from the produce section and have a 72 hours worth of water for 2 people? Did you know that in Haiti the going rate for water was 45 dollars/ gallon after the quake. There are all kinds of ways to disinfect water like boiling for 3-5 minutes, using the proper ratio of bleach to water, using a filtration pump. It is recommended that you have 1 gallon of water per person per day. We talked about how to convert 55 gallon drums of water in a system that can be rotated more easily by hooking it up to your garden hose. I learned about solar disinfection from the World Health Organization. I had a great time working with my friends and I was really happy with all of the information that I learned and the turn out.
