We had the most wonderful week at the lake this past week. We stayed at a family cabin up there that is right on the lake! We went kayacking, water trampolining, swimming, dancing, drawing, shooting, floating, sleeping, singing, water ballon fights looking at stars, reading, diving for random things in the water, looking for bugs, butter flies, snakes, leaches, and lizards. We had fun with friends and family. Best of all Tevan and his friend went shooting and shot down a dead tree with their guns!
Another highlight was when Brookie took me on a lizard hunt. She took me by the had and had me sit on a rock and then gave me 10 rules to lizard hunting... I don't remember them all but here are a few of them.
Rule #1 No hurting the lizards
Rule # 2 No killing the lizards
Rule # 3 No eating the lizards
Rule # 4 No scaring the lizards
Rule # 5 No pulling of their tails
Rule # 6 No yelling at them
Rule # 7 No Throwing rocks at them
I love watching her mind work. She decided that I needed rules if I was going to be honored enough to be with her while she was on her lizard expidition.
Cindy and Ben slept on the water trampoline and got soaked so they had to jump in the lake in the middle of the night to get back to the shore.
I read a book about classical education that I really liked. There are all sorts of ways to do home schooling maybe by traditional, unschooling, montessrori, Thomas Jefferson, Saxon..... I really liked The Well Trained Mind, by Susan Wise Bauer and Jessi Wise. I have heard from other homeschooling parents that they use a mixture of techniques. But that is another blog for another day.
Tevan caught the biggest leach he has ever seen there. It was about 6 inches big.
Tevan and the girls went kayacking and found a black radio in the water and he dove in and got it and they had a lot of fun discovering what was in it.
Our whole family of 5 fit onto a 2 person kayack and Tevan paddled us around.
I really loved laying on the water trampoline while it was in the water, Very soothing.
The girls had fun making creations out of the things they found in nature and using tree sap for glue.
All in all it was great to be away from civilzation for a week. It was nice to get Tevan all to ourselves with out having to share him with work. I wish it could have been longer. We had no cell phone service or internet there. It was really nice to be away from the distractions for a week.
